MoneyMotion exists to help people — especially students and first-time earners — build real money skills. We take that responsibility seriously, and that starts with being straight about what we collect, why, and what we won't do with it.
01What this covers
This Privacy Policy explains how MoneyMotion, Inc. (“MoneyMotion,” “we,” or “us”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use moneymotion.org, our mobile experiences, and any connected services (together, the “Service”).
When we say “you” we mean the person using the Service — a student, an adult learner, a parent, or an educator. If a school or district has enrolled students on your behalf, additional terms in Section 4 apply.
02Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details. Your email address and a password (stored only as a salted hash), or the equivalent from an identity provider like Google if you choose to sign in that way.
- Profile information. Optional details such as display name, age range, school affiliation, and learning goals.
- Classroom roster data.If you're enrolled through an educator or school, we receive the minimum roster information needed to set up your account (typically name, email, class ID, and grade level).
- Communications. If you email us or fill out a form, we keep the content of those messages so we can reply and improve.
Information we generate as you learn
- Lesson and quiz activity. Which lessons you watched, which questions you answered, time spent, and outcomes. This is what makes spaced repetition work.
- Paper trading activity. The simulated trades you place, your simulated portfolio, and related performance. To be clear: this is play money inside a sandbox — no real securities are bought or sold.
- Streaks, badges, and progress. The progress and achievement data that powers your dashboard.
Information collected automatically
- Device and log data. IP address, browser and OS type, device identifiers, language, referring page, and timestamps of your visits.
- Cookies and similar technologies. See Section 6 for details.
Information from third parties
- Identity providers (e.g., Google) if you choose to sign in with them — we receive your email, name, and profile photo.
- Market data providers supply the delayed and real-time prices displayed in paper trading. We do not send them anything about you.
- Payment processors confirm your subscription status. We never see or store your full card number.
03How we use it
We use the information above to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Service.
- Personalize your learning — surface the next lesson, adapt quizzes to what you miss, keep your streak.
- Show classrooms, districts, and parents (where applicable) the progress of learners they are responsible for.
- Secure accounts, detect fraud, and enforce our Terms of Service.
- Respond to your questions and support requests.
- Send transactional messages (password resets, receipts, important account notices) and, only if you opt in, occasional product updates.
- Measure aggregate usage so we can improve lessons, quizzes, and features.
- Comply with legal obligations.
We don't sell your personal information. We don't rent it to advertisers. We don't use student learning data to target ads. Paper trading activity is never shared with brokers or financial institutions.
04Students, schools, and minors
MoneyMotion is designed for learners age 13 and up, including many students in secondary school. When a school or district enrolls students through MoneyMotion for Schools, the school is the “data controller” of its students' records and we act as a service provider under applicable student privacy laws.
- We only collect the information a school authorizes and that is needed to deliver the educational service.
- We do not advertise to students, and we do not build behavioral profiles of students for non-educational purposes.
- Student records are not sold, leased, or traded. On request from a school or an eligible parent, we will provide access, correction, or deletion of a student's records, subject to the school's instructions and applicable law (including FERPA in the United States).
- We support parental consent workflows where a school requires them.
07Security
We protect your information with encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest for sensitive fields, hashed passwords, access controls, and regular review of the people and systems that touch your data. No system is perfectly secure, so if we ever learn of a breach that affects you, we'll tell you promptly and give you clear next steps.
08How long we keep data
We keep your information for as long as your account is active, plus a short window afterwards to support legal, tax, and legitimate business needs (typically no longer than 12 months). You can ask us to delete your account at any time (see Section 9). Backups are overwritten on a rolling basis.
09Your rights and choices
Wherever you are, you can:
- Access the information in your account from your dashboard.
- Correct inaccurate information in your profile.
- Export your learning data in a machine-readable format.
- Delete your account, which removes your personal information from active systems.
- Opt outof non-essential email. (We'll still send transactional messages you need to run your account.)
To use any of these rights, email privacy@moneymotion.org. If you're a student enrolled through a school, please contact your teacher or administrator — they control the account.
10Children under 13
MoneyMotion is not directed to children under 13, and individual sign-up requires an age of at least 13. We only collect information from children under 13 through a school that has authority to consent on behalf of parents for educational use, consistent with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you believe a child under 13 has created an account without such authorization, email privacy@moneymotion.org and we'll delete the account.
11California privacy rights
California residents have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended (CCPA/CPRA), including the right to know what personal information we've collected about you, to delete it, to correct inaccuracies, and to opt out of “sales” or “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. You can exercise your other rights from Section 9 at any time, and we'll never discriminate against you for doing so.
12International users
MoneyMotion is operated from the United States. If you use the Service from another country, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may have different data protection rules than where you live. Where required by law, we use appropriate safeguards — such as standard contractual clauses — for those transfers.
13Changes to this policy
We update this policy as the product and the law evolve. When we make a meaningful change, we'll update the “Last updated” date and, for material changes, notify you by email or through the Service at least 14 days before the change takes effect.
